Adding a label

Additional resources

What labels are good for

Labels are a good way to put content directly on your course's main page. The other way to do that is to edit the description for each week (or topic). Happily the methods for both are quite similar.

Labels

You add a label to your course's main page as follows:

  1. Go to your course's main page.
  2. Turn editing on, if it isn't on already.
  3. In the week (or topic) where you want the label, click on “Add an activity or resource”.
  4. In the popup, scroll down to the resources, select “Label”, and click “Add”.
  5. You will be taken to a page titled “Adding a new Label to…” the week/topic you're in. The first blank, marked “Label text”, is an HTML editor blank. Edit your text (details are on the Editing text page). When you're done, scroll to the bottom of the page and click “Save and return to course”.
  6. Drag the label up to where you want it in the week (or topic).

Editing a label that already exists is very similar. In place of steps 3-4 above, you go to the label you want to edit and click “Edit settings” on the drop-down menu to the right of the label. (You also probably won't need to drag the label in this case.)

Editing descriptive text

Editing the descriptive text for a week (or section) is also quite similar. The steps here are as follows:

  1. Go to your course's main page.
  2. Turn editing on, if it isn't on already.
  3. In the week (or topic) where you want to change the descriptive text, click on the little gear icon just below the week title.
  4. This will take you to a page with an HTML editor (marked “Summary”), where you can edit your text.
  5. When you're done click “Save changes”.
