Putting a Google Meet meeting in Moodle
Starting from Google Calendar
If (like me), you put your classes in your Converse Google calendar, you may find it more convenient to create the Meet call from Google Calendar.
- Add the Meet call to the Google Calendar event, following Google's instructions. Save the event.
- From the Google Calendar page in your browser, click on the
event. You'll see
Join Hangouts Meet
, and to the right a double square with a tooltip that saysCopy conference link to clipboard
. Click on that double square. - In another browser tab, go to your course page in Moodle. Turn editing on.
- In the appropriate place in the course, create a URL resource.
- In the
External URL
blank, paste the meeting info you copied from the Google Calendar event. (Don't save the URL resource just yet.) - Switch tabs back to the Google Calendar page. On the
meeting event, just below
Join Hangouts Meet
, there's another part that saysJoin by phone
. Copy that information to the clipboard (select it with your mouse and copy it with CTRL+C, or Command-C on a Mac). - Go back to the tab where you're editing the URL resource.
Paste the phone information into the
Description
blank. - Check the box that says
Display description on course page
. - Scroll down and click
Save and return to course
. - Try clicking on the link you just made, to make sure it works. (Don't worry—exiting the call won't destroy the Meet room.)
Starting from Meet itself
If you don't use Google Calendar, you can create the meeting from within Meet itself.
- Create the meeting, following Google's instructions.
- In Meet, click
Join meeting
. - As the meeting starts with you in it, you'll be given a
window that says
Add others
. On this window, there is information about the meeting, and a double-square icon labeledCopy joining info
. Click that icon. - In another browser tab, go to your course page in Moodle. Turn editing on.
- In the appropriate place in the course, create a URL resource.
- Paste the joining info into the
Description
blank. - Check the box that says
Display description on course page
. - Copy the link address from the
Description
blank, and paste it into theExternal URL
blank. - Scroll down and click
Save and return to course
. - Try clicking on the link you just made, to make sure it works. (Don't worry—exiting the call won't destroy the Meet room.)
